The BBC has lifted the curtain on its highly anticipated TV adaptation of Lord of the Flies, releasing a first-look trailer and fresh artwork ahead of the show’s February debut.
All four episodes of the series will launch early on BBC iPlayer on Sunday, February 8, letting fans binge or take it slow, while BBC One will air new episodes weekly that evening at 9pm.
This adaptation marks the iconic novel’s first time on television screens. Jack Thorne, the BAFTA-winning writer behind His Dark Materials and Enola Holmes, leads the project, teaming up with acclaimed director Marc Munden.
The production comes from Joel Wilson at Eleven, the studio that brought us Sex Education, and is a co-production with Australian streamer Stan. Sony Pictures Television is handling worldwide distribution, so viewers everywhere can expect access.
The ensemble cast is mostly made up of first-time actors, with Winston Sawyers taking on the pivotal role of Ralph, Lox Pratt as Jack, David McKenna as Piggy, and Ike Talbut as Simon. Other key characters include Thomas Connor as Roger, Noah and Cassius Flemyng as twins Sam and Eric, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice, and Tom Page-Turner as Bill.
Based on William Golding’s classic novel, Lord of the Flies follows a group of schoolboys stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. As they try to build their own society, tensions quickly boil over, with Ralph trying to keep order and Jack drawn towards chaos and power.
