Ludwig is officially returning for a second season after becoming the BBC’s biggest new scripted show of the year.

The comedy-drama, led by David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, pulled in over 9.5 million viewers and became the most-watched BBC comedy since 2018. In the US, the show is available on BritBox.

The series follows John “Ludwig” Taylor, a socially awkward puzzle designer who ends up impersonating his identical twin brother James, a high-profile detective who mysteriously vanishes.

As John steps into his brother’s shoes, he’s thrown into the world of major crimes in Cambridge, all while trying to keep his true identity a secret.

David Mitchell will reprise his role as Ludwig, alongside Anna Maxwell Martin, who plays Lucy, the wife of the missing James.

The first season also included Derek Jacobi, Felicity Kendal, Karl Pilkington and Rose Ayling-Ellis on the cast.

David Mitchell said: “I’m delighted that John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor has failed to escape the clutches of the Cambridge police and will have to continue to face up to the city’s alarming conundrum-based crime wave.”

Mark Brotherhood, Creator and Writer, added: “We’ve all been blown away by the reaction to Ludwig and I’m thrilled we get to come back with a whole new set of puzzles for him to solve in his unique way”.

If you haven’t already caught it, all episodes of season one are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer in the UK and BritBox in the US.
