Get ready for another emotionally charged journey behind bars as the BBC announces the third season of Jimmy McGovern’s celebrated drama Time.
This latest chapter moves the action into a young offenders institution, promising a fresh look at the impact of teenage incarceration and the pressures felt by those who guard and guide them.
Fans will see David Tennant take on the role of Prison Officer Bailey, joining Siobhan Finneran, who returns as chaplain Marie-Louise. Filming is set to kick off in Belfast.
This season, the story delves into the aftermath of a tragedy inside the institution. Marie-Louise, who has lost her faith, finds herself at odds with Bailey, a veteran officer consumed by guilt and secrets about the incident.
Meanwhile, two young inmates, Peter and James, navigate the frightening early days of their sentences. Peter struggles with the burden of family loyalty, while James faces the fallout from a violent act. Their unexpected friendship may be the only hope for a new direction amidst uncertainty behind bars.
Jimmy McGovern shared his excitement for the new season, saying: “Siobhan Finneran is back! And we’ve got a wonderful leading man in David Tennant. And a brilliant director in Paul Whittington. I think it’s going to be wonderful.”
The third season of Time is being developed as a three-part series for BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BritBox.
Those eager to catch up can stream the first two seasons now on both BBC iPlayer and BritBox.
