Doctor Foster looks set to make a big return, with reports saying a third season is close to getting the green light at the BBC.

If it goes ahead, filming would start next year, eight years after the end of season two.

Suranne Jones is said to be coming back as Jenny Foster (via The Sun), a role that helped make the show one of the biggest BBC dramas of the past decade.

At its peak, the show pulled in close to eight million viewers each week as fans followed the tense story of a family pushed to the edge.

The first season followed Jenny, a trusted local doctor whose life changed when she found signs that her husband might be seeing someone else.

The search for answers pushed her into one shock after another, and every truth she uncovered made things worse at home and in her work.

The season ended with her family in pieces after a long and painful battle.

Seasons two showed the fallout as the family tried to move on. Jenny and her ex tried to build new lives while still dealing with the damage from their past. Their son was caught in the middle as old fights resurfaced.

The season led to a final showdown that left fans wondering if the story was really over.

Now it looks like viewers may finally get answers.
