The series centres on Cushla (Lola Petticrew), a young Catholic schoolteacher who spends her nights helping out behind the bar in her family’s pub.

It’s there she meets Michael (Tom Cullen), an older, married Protestant barrister who’s known for defending IRA suspects and surrounding himself with outspoken intellectuals.

Despite knowing the danger, Cushla finds herself pulled into a passionate and complicated relationship.

Gillian Anderson stars as her mother Gina, described as a “glorious wreck” who frequently clashes with her daughter.

Also on the cast are Martin McCann, Barry Ward, Emily Taaffe, Lisa Dwyer Hogg and Frank Blake.

Trespasses has been adapted by Ailbhe Keogan (Bad Sisters) and is directed by BAFTA-winner Dawn Shadforth (Mood).
