John Hannah and Carolina Bécquer on set in Benidorm
John Hannah will lead the cast of Death in Benidorm, a brand-new British detective drama set to premiere in 2026.
Best known for roles in The Last of Us, Black Mirror, and Four Weddings and a Funeral, Hannah stars as Dennis, a former UK detective who’s left the chaos of his old life behind to run a quiet bar in sunny Benidorm, Spain.
But when tourists begin turning up dead, Dennis finds himself pulled back into detective work—this time with an unlikely partner.
That partner is Rosa, his spirited barmaid played by Carolina Bécquer, who just happens to be obsessed with crime shows.
Together, they make for an offbeat but clever duo: Dennis brings real-world experience, while Rosa applies her deep knowledge of fictional detective tropes.
Further roles casted include Carolina Bécquer as Rosa, Ariadna Cabrol as Maria and Damian Schedler Cruz as Jesús.
Each episode of the 6-part series sees them solving a new murder, all while trying to avoid stepping on the toes of the local Spanish police.
The series is currently in production on location in Spain.
The show is created by Ian Jarvis and directed by Simon Delaney (Death in Paradise), and it blends mystery, wit and plenty of sun-soaked charm.
If you’re into shows like Death in Paradise or The Madame Blanc Mysteries, this is one to keep an eye on.
Death in Benidorm will premiere in the UK on Channel 5 in 2026, with international release plans to follow.
