Get ready for a fresh crime series as ITV commissions Winter, a new six-part police procedural set to bring a different style of forensic drama to screen.
The project is led by Richard Armitage, known for Fool Me Once and Red Eye, who steps into the shoes of Dr Ethan Winter – an unconventional, brilliant forensic pathologist with a sharp wit and a rule-bending streak.
Alongside him, Annabel Scholey (The Sixth Commandment, The Split) joins the case as DI Lauren Bell, a dedicated and sharp detective who becomes Winter’s key partner.
Their partnership promises sparks as Winter’s analytical mind and Bell’s tough approach are put to work solving mysterious and complex murders across Bristol.
But things aren’t as straightforward as they seem – Winter is secretly haunted by the unsolved murder of someone close to him, a personal mission that weaves throughout the season, interlacing with each unique weekly case.
The series will air on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK while PBS MASTERPIECE will air and stream in the US.
Filming is set to kick off in early 2026 in Bristol and Belgium.
Richard said: “The team behind Winter are second to none and the ambition of David Allison’s scripts is very exciting and will attempt to shake up the genre that we’ve grown to love.”
Annabel adds: “Our characters’ tempestuous relationship will be a total thrill to explore, and I am excited to step into the wonderfully dry shoes of DI Lauren Bell.”
Winter is produced by Eagle Eye Drama, co-produced with MASTERPIECE for US audiences, and in association with ITV Studios and Happy Duck Films.
