Riot Women is officially coming back for a second season.
The first season made a splash on BBC iPlayer and on TV, pulling in millions of viewers. Internationally, the series airs on BritBox.
The story followed a teacher, a police officer, a pub worker, a midwife and a free spirit who formed a punk band for a small-town talent show, only to find themselves opening up in ways they never expected.
As the group grew closer, two members uncovered a major twist from their past that left viewers talking long after the finale.
Set in the town of Hebden Bridge, the show stood out thanks to its standout cast and the honest way it portrayed friendship and change. Now the team behind the series says they’re ready to push things even further.
Sally Wainwright, the creator behind the show, said: “Oh, this is where the fun really starts! We’ve all been so deeply moved by the huge, overwhelming, joyous, emotional response to series one, and now we’re able to take the Riot Women extravaganza onto the next level! We hope you’ll all join us on the series two rollercoaster!”
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, added: “Riot Women has resonated with millions of BBC viewers so I’m over the moon that we get to go again. An enormous thank you goes to Sally, Roanna, the team at Drama Republic and the dream cast and crew.
“Riot Women has made people laugh, cry, think and connect with others – what more could we ask for… Bring on the next chapter!”
