Filming is officially underway for series two of This City is Ours, the BBC’s breakout crime drama that became its most-watched new show of the year.

Returning cast members James Nelson-Joyce and Hannah Onslow are back as Michael and Diana, with Shaun Evans and Money Heist star Álvaro Morte joining the ensemble.

The new series picks up right where things left off, with Michael and Diana arriving in Spain, only to be pulled back into trouble following the death of cartel member Ricardo.

Meanwhile, back in Liverpool, the fallout continues as old loyalties are tested and new threats emerge.

New cast members Evans and Morte play Ozzie Thompson, a former gangster fresh out of prison, and Felipe Guzman, the brother of the murdered Ricardo.

The returning ensemble also includes Jack McMullen, Julie Graham, Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Laura Aikman.

The first series premiered on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in March and pulled in over 7.8 million viewers for its opening episode.

It quickly built momentum to become the BBC’s top-performing new drama of the year.

The second series will consist of eight hour-long episodes and will be filmed in and around Liverpool, with additional scenes shot in Spain.

Series creator Stephen Butchard returns as lead writer, with Saul Dibb directing once again.

This City is Ours series two is expected to air in early 2026.

In the meantime, all episodes of the first outing are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
